How is reading time calculated?
By dividing the word count by 200 words per minute, a commonly used average adult silent-reading speed. Actual reading speed varies a lot by person and by how dense the text is, so treat this as a rough estimate rather than an exact figure.
Why might the sentence count be slightly off?
Sentence counting is done by looking for '.', '!', or '?' followed by a space or the end of the text. Abbreviations like "Mr." or decimal numbers like "3.14" can occasionally be miscounted as sentence breaks - this is a limitation every simple text-analysis tool shares, since telling those apart reliably needs real language-specific knowledge.
Does the word count treat "don't" as one word or two?
One - words are split on whitespace only, so any punctuation attached directly to a word (apostrophes, hyphens, commas) stays part of that word rather than splitting it.
