Webcam Test

Check your camera in the browser: live preview, real resolution and frame rate, a lighting and focus check, device details and full-size photos.

Runs entirely in your browser - the picture never leaves your device and nothing is recorded or uploaded.

Live preview

Your browser will ask to use the camera. Close other apps that use it (Zoom, Teams, Discord) first.

Camera

Start the camera to see its name and what it can do.

This webcam test shows what your camera really sends. The live preview reports the actual resolution, aspect ratio and megapixels, and the frame rate is measured from the frames that arrive - not just the number the camera claims. A lighting check spots a dark room, a window behind you or a washed-out picture, and a focus check tells you when the image is blurry. You can mirror the view, show framing guides, go full screen, switch cameras, ask for 4K, Full HD or HD, test which sizes the camera truly supports, and save a full-size photo.

Webcam test FAQ

Why doesn't my camera work in the browser?
Usually it's a permission or another app. Allow the camera from the icon in the address bar, then check your system: on Windows, Settings › Privacy & security › Camera must allow desktop apps and your browser; on macOS, your browser must be listed in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Camera. Only one app can use most cameras at a time, so close Zoom, Teams, Discord or other tabs. Laptops often have a privacy shutter or a camera key (F8, F10 or a key with a camera icon).
Why is my camera's resolution lower than advertised?
A site gets whatever the browser picks unless it asks for more, and that is often 640 × 480 even on a 1080p camera. Choose a higher quality above to ask for it, and use the size test to see what the camera really delivers. Low light also makes many webcams lower their frame rate, and some apps cap resolution to save bandwidth.
Why is the measured frame rate lower than the camera's setting?
In dim light webcams expose each frame for longer, so they can't deliver 30 frames a second and quietly drop to 15 or less. A busy computer or a USB hub can drop frames too. Add light in front of you first - it's the most common fix.
Is my picture mirrored for other people?
No. Most call apps show you a mirrored preview, like a mirror, but send the unmirrored picture - so text on your shirt looks backwards only to you. Untick Mirror to see what others see. Photos are saved the way the preview shows them.
Is my video recorded or uploaded?
No. The picture is shown and analysed inside your browser and never sent anywhere. Photos exist only in this tab until you download them or close the page.
