Enter your price per kWh to see what it costs.

Find out what your appliances cost to run - add a fridge, heater or PC with its watts and hours of use and see kWh and cost per day, month and year.

Add the appliances you want to check - pick a common one like a fridge, kettle or heater for typical figures, or enter your own - then adjust the power in watts, the hours a day and the days a week you use it. With your price per kWh from your bill, the page shows each appliance's monthly energy and cost and the total per day, month and year, so you can see where the money goes and what a new heater or an older fridge really costs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate an appliance's electricity cost?
Watts × hours ÷ 1000 gives kWh; kWh × your price gives the cost. A 2000 W heater used 4 hours a day uses 8 kWh a day - at 0.30 per kWh that's 2.40 a day, about 73 a month.
Where do I find the wattage?
On the rating label (often on the back or underneath), on the power adapter, or in the manual. A plug-in energy meter gives the real figure. For fridges and freezers, divide the yearly kWh on the energy label by 8.76 to get the average watts.
Why are the preset figures only typical?
Real use varies with the model, settings and season. Fridges cycle on and off, heaters run with thermostats, and TVs draw less on eco modes. Adjust the watts and hours to match your home.
Is anything saved?
Only your appliance list and price, on this device, so you can come back to it. Nothing is sent anywhere.
