This tool draws a text watermark directly onto your photo using the Canvas API, right in your browser, and lets you preview every change - position, size, color, opacity, rotation - before downloading the result. A tiled option repeats the watermark across the whole image, which is harder to crop out than a single corner mark. Your photo is never uploaded anywhere; the entire image is composited locally.
Frequently asked questions
Does this reduce the quality of my photo?
The watermark itself is drawn as new pixels on top of your image, so it doesn't degrade the original photo underneath. The final download is re-encoded as JPEG, which is the same lossy compression nearly every photo already goes through, so there's no additional quality loss beyond the one re-encoding step.
Why tile the watermark instead of just placing it in a corner?
A single corner watermark can often be cropped out entirely, leaving the rest of the image unmarked. Tiling the watermark across the whole photo at low opacity makes it much harder to remove without visibly damaging the image, which is why it's the standard approach for stock photo previews.
Can I remove a watermark that's already baked into an image?
Not with this tool. Once a watermark has been composited into an image's pixels - whether by this tool or any other - it's part of the image data itself, not a separate layer that can be cleanly peeled off. This tool only adds watermarks, it doesn't attempt to remove existing ones.
Can I add a logo or image instead of text?
Not right now - this tool only draws text watermarks. For an image mark, you'd need to composite it in an image editor first.
Can I watermark a PDF instead of a photo?
Yes - drop a PDF instead of a photo and the same watermark (text, position, size, color, opacity, rotation) is applied to every page, still entirely in your browser. The download is a new PDF, not a JPEG.
What image formats can I upload?
Any common photo format your browser can open - JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and most others.
Is there a maximum photo size or resolution?
No upload limit. The download keeps your photo's full resolution - only a photo larger than your browser can draw (about 40 megapixels, 16 on iPhone and Safari) is scaled down to fit. The preview is shown smaller, and the watermark is scaled up with the photo so it looks the same.
Can I watermark several photos at once?
Not yet - one photo at a time. You'd need to repeat the process for each one.
Can I preview the watermark before downloading?
Yes - the canvas preview updates live as you change the text, size, color, opacity, rotation, or position, so what you see is exactly what you'll download.
Does the download keep my photo's original EXIF data (camera model, location, etc.)?
No - since the image is redrawn onto a canvas and re-exported, EXIF metadata isn't carried over. If you need to check or strip EXIF data without watermarking, Gizke.com's Metadata Cleaner does exactly that.
What format is the download?
A PDF stays a PDF. A PNG photo is saved as PNG, so transparent areas stay transparent; every other photo is saved as a high-quality JPEG.
Can I use a custom font for the watermark text?
Not currently - the text always renders in a bold sans-serif font. You can still adjust its size, color, opacity, and rotation.
Does rotation spin the watermark around the photo's center or its own center?
Each watermark (or each tile, with the tiled position) rotates around its own center, not the photo's - so a corner watermark rotates in place rather than sweeping around the image.
What's a good opacity for a watermark that doesn't ruin the photo?
Somewhere around 30-50% is a common sweet spot - visible enough to discourage reuse without distracting from the photo. The tiled position tends to look better at lower opacity, since it covers more of the image.
Does this work on my phone?
Yes - it's a normal web page with nothing to install, and works the same way on mobile browsers: choose or drop a photo, adjust the watermark, and download.
Can I link directly to this page with the watermark text already filled in?
Yes - add a `text` parameter to the URL, e.g. gizke.com/watermark?text=Confidential, and it'll be pre-filled when the page loads.
Will closing the tab lose my watermark settings?
Yes - nothing is saved. Since your photo never leaves your device in the first place, there's nothing stored to come back to; you'd need to re-upload and reapply the watermark.
Can I add more than one watermark, like text plus a date?
Not as two separate elements, but you can put both in the same watermark text, e.g. "© Jane Doe · 2026".
